Thursday word of the day : ameliorate

I really think all my text messaging has killed my vocabulary. I mean, not only do I use overly simple words, I abbreviate them! A while back I signed up for dictionary.com's "word of the day" to recharge my brain. They send you an email every day with a different word and today's word was so good I decided to use it for MY word of the day.

ameliorate
1. To make better; to improve.
2. To grow better.
Ameliorate is derived from Latin ad + meliorare, "to make better," from melior, "better."
